Weskota Wellness Update - August 2008

Weight Support Group – Support Group coordinated through Springs Parish Nurse Program - Mondays from 12-1 p.m. at the Court House Community Room – Make-up date on Tuesdays for Monday holidays - $10 to join for initial 6 weeks – $5 for each 6-week session thereafter – Weigh-in & Short Meeting – Is on-going, so you may join anytime – $1 back for every pound lost & no fee after reaching goal weight - Call Susan Arnott at 539-1999 or Grace Dwyer at 539-9235 for details.

Low Vision Support Group – No Support Group during August – Normally held on second Monday of each month – Weskota Apartments South at 10 a.m. – Call Valerie Channel, Social Services Designee at Weskota Manor Avera 539-1621 for details.

Alzheimer’s Support Group – No Support Group during August – Normally held on second Monday of each month - Private Dining Room at Weskota Manor Avera at 5 p.m. – Call Valerie Channel, Social Services Designee at Weskota Manor Avera 539-1621 for details.

Caregivers Support Group – Support Group hosted by the Springs Parish Nurse Program meets the last Monday of each month – Will meet Monday, August 25th at 7 p.m. at Weskota Apartments South - Tips on providing care, opportunities to share ideas & support of others - Call Grace Dwyer at 539-9235 for details.

Cardio Exercise Class – Tentatively scheduled to begin in September if minimum number of participants are registered - Watch for details - Regina Teveldal, Instructor

Yoga Class – Tentatively scheduled to begin in September if minimum number of participants are registered - Watch for details – Sherrie Redmann, Instructor

Health Care Special Events:

2008 Jerauld-Sanborn County Relay For Life - The Relay For Life will be held on Saturday, August 9th at the David Jost Baseball Field from 5-10 p.m. A Health Team will walk in the Relay. Luminaries may be purchased for $10 from the hospital, manor or clinic business offices.

Open House For Dr. Orstad - An Open House to welcome Dr. Kerri Orstad and her family will be held on Thursday, August 14th from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Springs Country Club. The public is invited. Refreshments will be served.

Siouxland Community Blood Drive – Tuesday, August 19th at the Ag Building from noon-6 p.m.

Cancer Presentation - Dr. Haq and Dr. Dick from Avera Queen Of Peace Cancer Center will be giving a cancer presentation on August 21st. A public presentation will be held in the hospital's new community room at 2:30 p.m. They will discuss cancer types, symptoms, prevention and treatment. Refreshments will be served.

Hospital Renovation Open House – A Ribbon Cutting & Open House for the Hospital Renovation & Expansion Project will be held on Sunday, September 14th. Watch for details.
