Your Room Your room assignment at WMMC is based on your admitting diagnosis and the bed availability on the day of your admission. Your Hospital Bed Hospital beds are electrically operated. Your nurse will show you how to work your bed properly. Your hospital bed is probably higher and narrower than your bed at home. Bedside rails are for your protection. They may be raised at night or during the day if you're resting, recovering from surgery or taking certain medications. Room Temperature All rooms in the hospital are centrally heated and cooled. If your room temperature is not comfortable, please notify the nursing staff. Calling Your Nurse A button to call your nurse is located at your bedside. When you press the button, the nursing station is alerted that you need assistance and will respond verbally via the intercom in your room. A staff member will respond to your request as soon as possible. During the Night Strange surroundings and sleeping medications may create a hazard if you get out of bed. If assistance is needed use your call button to summon help. Wheelchairs Wheelchairs are available on all nursing units, but getting in and out of them without assistance may be hazardous. Please ask for help from a member of the hospital staff. Safety and Security For your protection, the hospital conducts fire and disaster drills regularly. If an alarm sounds while you are here, please remain in your room and follow instructions from designated staff. Television The television set in your room is provided as a courtesy to you during your stay. If it is not working properly, report the problem and repairs will be made as quickly as possible. WMMC televisions are equipped to provide a wide selection of viewing. Telephones A telephone is available for use in your room free of charge for friends and family calling you. They can call your room by dialing 539-1201. To place a call anywhere in WMMC, just dial the extension number. For local calls outside the hospital, simply dial "9" and then the number. Collect calls and credit card calls may be dialed as follows:
Credit card calls from other long distance companies may be made by following their respective dialing instructions. Calls beginning with the 1 + 800 prefix may be made from patient phones. Remember to dial "9" first when calling outside the hospital. Pay telephones are located next to the lobby. Housekeepers Your room is cleaned daily by a member of the housekeeping staff. If there is a housekeeping problem in your room, tell your nurse, and it will be taken care of as soon as possible. Other Personnel During your stay you may be visited by many other healthcare professionals including personnel from the Laboratory and Radiology, Pharmacy, and Rehabilitation departments. Additionally, the WMMC family includes many behind-the-scenes workers, such as maintenance, food service workers, office personnel, and others who contribute greatly toward your well-being while you are here. Patient Education Education of patients and their families or caregivers is a priority at WMMC. Education helps the patient and family understand his or her health status and maximize care skills. The education promotes recovery and speedy return to function. Additionally, education promotes healthy behaviors and involves the patient in understanding health care options. If you have specific needs for education which have not been addressed by your nurse or if you simply want to receive health-related education of any kind, contact the Charge Nurse or Director of Nursing.
